Romania Work Visa | Aviz de Angajare & IGI

Romania issues over 100,000 new foreign worker authorizations each year. The two-document system — the Aviz de Angăjare (work authorization) from ANOFM plus the long-stay visa from IGI — is the foundation of every Romanian employment immigration case.

Bucharest city center, Romania immigration destination

Romania is one of Europe's fastest-growing economies and a significant IT, manufacturing, and automotive hub. Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara are major international business centers attracting skilled foreign professionals. The country sets an annual quota for non-EU workers — in recent years exceeding 100,000 authorizations per year.

The Aviz de Angăjare — Your Work Authorization

The Aviz de Angăjare is the work authorization issued by ANOFM (Agenția Națională pentru Ocuparea Forei de Muncă — the National Agency for Employment). The employer applies for this document on your behalf. It certifies that no Romanian or EU candidate was available for your position and authorizes the company to employ a foreign national.

IGI Long-Stay Visa — Step Two

Once your employer has the Aviz de Angăjare, you apply for a Romanian Long-Stay Visa (“Viză de lungă ședere”) at the nearest Romanian embassy or consulate. This visa is processed by the IGI (Inspectoratul General pentru Imigrari — the General Inspectorate for Immigration). It is granted for 90 days and allows entry into Romania to begin your employment.

Temporary Residence Permit — Step Three

Within 30 days of arrival, you must visit your local IGI territorial office to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit for Employment. This biometric card is issued for 1 year and is renewable as long as your employment contract remains valid.

Romania Digital Nomad Visa — For Remote Workers

Romania introduced a Digital Nomad Visa for non-EU remote workers — valid for 12 months with renewal options. To qualify, you must earn income from clients or employers based outside Romania and meet a minimum monthly income threshold.
